Continue working with Kentucky’s Prescribed Fire Council and federal and state partners to increase awareness and implementation of prescribed burns throughout the state.

  • Continued to demonstrate that fire, when used in carefully controlled conditions, is an essential tool for managing the health of Kentucky’s grasslands, barrens, glades and forests.
  • Burned and assisted with burns at more than 4,100 acres on public lands, private properties and our nature preserves in partnership with the United States Forest Service (USFS), the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR).
  • Trained 45 Murray State University, Eastern Kentucky University and Berea College students in prescribed burns during three workshops conducted with partners from USFS and KDFWR.
  • Developed education and training programs with Kentucky’s Prescribed Fire Council to increase awareness and train landowners on how to conduct controlled burns.
  • Assisted federal partners with five wildfire incidents in Kentucky, Oregon and California.
